Damp and Mould Action and Awareness Week takes place from 19 – 25 October, raising awareness of damp and mould and the importance of tackling problems when they arise.
At EPIC, we’re committed to ensuring your home is free from damp, mould and condensation. If you notice a problem, please tell us so we can work with you to identify the cause and take the appropriate action.
What are damp, mould and condensation?
Damp is caused by excess moisture in your home. This can come from condensation, water getting in from outside or an internal leak.
Mould grows where there is excess moisture and can often appear as small black spots around the corners and edges of rooms or windows.
Condensation forms when moisture in the air meets a cold surface, often as a result of everyday activities such as cooking, cleaning and showering.
What can you do to manage moisture?
Some simple steps can help manage moisture and condensation in your home:
- Use extractor fans when cooking or bathing
- Open trickle vents and ventilate your home when needed
- Wipe condensation from windows and other cold surfaces
- Keep large furniture away from external walls where possible to improve airflow
- If drying washing indoors, use your bathroom or kitchen with the extractor fan on, windows open and doors closed
If you’re finding it difficult to afford to heat your home, please get in touch with us so we can talk to you about the support available.
