How the November 2025 Budget Could Affect EPIC Tenants

Following the Budget announced by Rachel Reeves in November 2025, you may have seen a lot of information about how it could affect you.
The Budget touches many aspects of daily life, and now that we’ve had time to review the details, we wanted to share some key points that may be most relevant for tenants:
End of the Two-Child Benefit Limit
From April 2026, the 2-child limit on the child element of Universal Credit will be removed. This means families with more than two children could see an increase in their Universal Credit payments. Please note this change does not affect Child Benefit, and the overall benefits cap will still apply.
If you receive Universal Credit, the DWP will contact you closer to April with details of any changes and may ask for updated information or proofs.
Increases to Pensions, Universal Credit, and Other Benefits
There will be increases across pensions, Universal Credit, and other benefits, though the exact amount will depend on individual circumstances. The DWP will confirm these changes before April 2026. As benefit rates for 2026/27 are still being set, we can’t provide specific figures yet.
Changes to the National Minimum Wage
The National Minimum Wage will rise by 4.1% for those aged 21 and over, and by 8.5% for those aged 18–20.
Reduction in Energy Bills
From April 2026, certain green scheme costs will be removed from household energy bills, which the government estimates could save the typical household around £150 per year. Your energy provider will share more details closer to the time.
Support for Tenants
At EPIC, we understand that while these changes may bring some positive impacts, many people are still feeling the effects of the cost-of-living crisis – and these updates won’t take effect until April 2026.
