Gas Safety Week 2025

Gas Safety Week 2025 has arrived! This year is about keeping our family and those around us gas safe. Because we all have a role in creating a gas safe nation, and your role can make all the difference.

As your landlord it is our responsibility to ensure your gas appliances are checked by a Gas Safe registered engineer. We are also responsible for keeping a gas safety record and maintaining all gas pipework, appliances and flues.

Gas safety checks take place once a year and our contractors will contact you to make an appointment 2 months before the anniversary date of your previous check. Please ensure you are home for the appointment and allow the engineer access. The engineer will show you their ID card so you can be sure of who they are.

As a tenant, it is important that you report any gas safety concerns. If a gas appliance has been badly fitted or poorly serviced, potential risks include gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning.

Some symptoms of CO poisoning are the same as flu, food poisoning, viral infections, fatigue, or a hangover which makes it easy to mistake this very dangerous poisoning for something else.

Signs of a carbon monoxide leak include:

  • Floppy yellow or orange flame on your gas hob, rather than a crisp blue flame
  • Dark, sooty staining on or around your gas appliances
  • Increased condensation inside windows
  • The boiler pilot light keeps going out

If you smell gas or suspect CO poisoning, please call the free 24-hour National Gas Emergency Helpline on: 0800 111 999
