Storage of combustible items
Your safety is important to us. Please help us protect your home and family.
One crucial aspect of home safety is ensuring that combustible items are stored properly and away from your living spaces. Combustible materials can create significant fire hazards and understanding how to manage them can prevent fires from occurring.
What Are Combustible Items?
Combustible items are materials that can easily catch fire and burn.
Examples include:
- Flammable liquids and gases such as petrol, paint thinner, propane, and butane.
- Solid combustibles such as paper, cardboard, wood, fabric, and unwanted household items.

- Fire Hazard
The most obvious risk is the potential for fire. Combustible items can ignite from a spark, heat source, or even spontaneous combustion under certain conditions. A carelessly discarded cigarette can be disastrous. - Health Risks
Some combustible materials release toxic fumes when they burn, posing health risks to you, your family, pets, and anyone nearby. - Property Damage
Fires can cause extensive damage to your home, leading to costly repairs and loss of valuable possessions.
Safe Disposal of Combustible Materials
We understand that when you are moving in, redecorating or having a clear out, you might temporarily have extra boxes, packaging or household waste. However please do not store these materials near your home, even for a short time – they can still pose a serious fire risk. Please ensure that anything you are disposing of is kept at least 6 meters away from any building.
